NSL achieves record-breaking production milestones on April 26

New heights achieved in production and energy efficiency demonstrate the power of NMDC Steel Limited’s world-class technology and skilled workforce

JAGDALPUR-Nagarnar, April 28, 2025///  Exhibiting exceptional operational excellence and technical prowess, NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), India’s youngest and most modern steel plant, achieved several record-breaking production milestones on April 26, 2025. These achievements further strengthen its position as a leader in the country’s steel industry.

The company crossed another milestone this month breaking its own record for the third time when the steel plant reached its rated capacity, marking an extraordinary milestone for development. This ability to perform beyond expectations not only highlights the growth with which the plant is progressing, but also underlines the inherent potential of NSL to become a trailblazer for steel plants of the modern era.

NSL set a new benchmark by achieving its highest daily basics production of 23,307 tonnes, breaking the previous record in Dow Material Handling System (MMHS). In addition, HMHS demonstrated excellent operational efficiency by achieving the lowest tipping time of 2 hours and 35 minutes.

On the basis of this month, the Coke Oven (CO) unit achieved its highest daily pulls with 186 pulls, while the Last Furnace recorded a stellar performance by achieving its highest daily hot metal production of 11,034 tonnes. Adding another feather to its achievements, the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) achieved 52 heats and produced 9,342 tonnes of hot steel, setting a new operational milestone. In another significant achievement, Power & Blown Station (PBS) surpassed its rated capacity with Top Recovery Turbine (TT) generating more than 15 MW of power for the first time; an output that underlines NSL’s commitment to energy optimization.

The day also witnessed exceptional performance at other major units. Sinter Plant achieved a robust production of 12,886 tonnes of sinter; Substation Slab Casting (TSC) produced 8,850 tonnes of crude steel; And the Hot Strip Mill (HSM) produced 8,673 tonnes of HR coils, demonstrating synchronised precision and operational excellence across the entire value chain. Speaking on these achievements, Shri Amitabh Mukherjee, Chairman & Managing Director, NMDC Steel Limited and NMDC said, “These record breaking performances reflect NSL’s commitment to operational excellence, innovation and resilience. This is a moment of pride and a crucial time for all of us. We are continually raising standards and setting new benchmarks for the Indian steel industry. The determination, passion and pioneering spirit of Team NSL in achieving these historic milestones not only strengthens our position but also makes us one of the most successful steel makers in India to achieve 300 million tonnes of steel production capacity.” “This initiative contributes significantly towards the vision of the Government of India. I extend my hearty congratulations to all those involved in making this possible.”

NSL enhanced its capabilities and successfully supplied Nitrogen to Chhattisgarh Government for the first time and increased its contribution to the regional industrial ecosystem. In addition, STV-2 of PBS synchronized operations with a refurbished unit operating at 24 MW.
