Mother gave her blessings to the Chief Minister-touched his cheek with affection, thanked him from the heart for converting a kutcha house into a pucca house

From a kutcha house to a pucca house – dignity and peace returned to a mother's life
*** The compassion and gratitude of a mother who arose from a village located at the foothills of Karegutta hill in Usur block of Bijapur district—62-year-old Shammi Durgam became emotional after receiving the keys of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at the Sushasan Tihar organized in Galgam. While taking the keys from Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, she touched his cheek with affectionate hands, then touched that hand to her lips—as if a mother was blessing her son. This scene was not just the joy of getting a pucca house, but a mother's affectionate trust on the government. ***

Bijapur 16 May 2025/// The years-long wait of 62-year-old Shammi Durgam of Usur, a Naxal-affected village located at the foothills of Karegutta mountain in Usur block of Bijapur district, was fulfilled on 15 May, when on the occasion of Sushasan Tihar organized in Galgam, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai handed over the keys of a pucca house built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to her. Shammi Durgam became emotional after getting the keys of the permanent house. Touching the cheeks of the Chief Minister affectionately, she said that it was very difficult for her to live in a kutcha house for years – there was a fear of insects and poisonous creatures in every season. She emotionally thanked the Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai again and again and said – now there is peace in my life, and my children have a permanent roof over their heads.

Smt. Durgam told that her husband died 15 years ago due to illness, since then she alone raised her two children and somehow made a living by doing agriculture work. When she has got a safe, strong and respectable house, it is not just a house but a reward for her lifelong struggles. This is such a roof, which is not just made of bricks and cement, but the foundation of respect, security and self-respect is attached to it. Shammi Durgam is a witness to the fact that when the government schemes reach the right hands, they become not just a building but a house of trust and hope.
